Removing the dash
top
- Remove speaker grilles
-
- pull the door weather strip
loose from the rear side of the front pillar
- pry the
fabric-covered pillar trim loose at rear and pop the nylon retainers out
- rotate pillar trim
forward to the windshield
- remove two T10 Torx
at sides of grilles, one T10 on top
- pull grille back and
up (disconnect alarm LED connector on left one, if so equipped)
- Remove 8mm hex head
bolts at front corners (one left, one right)
- 1/4" drive
ratchet would work well
- I use an 8mm socket
with a 1/4" hex screwdriver shaft and turn it with a 1/4" open end
wrench
- Remove the two T20 screws
from ends of dash top (one left, one right)
-
Remove the two T20 screws from
top, at ends, nearest the passenger compartment (one left, one right)
- Remove T20
screw behind glove box door
- open glove box door
- pop out the
3/8" circular rubber insert, remove screw
- Remove T20 screw at top
of instrument panel
- about 2" from
the right side of the opening; there's an access hole that can be felt
- a short screwdriver
handle works best; even the Saab toolbox screwdriver handle is a bit long
- Lift the rear of the
top cover and note the jacketed steel cable that runs from pillar to pillar
- remove cable from
clips (one center, one at each end)
- disconnect sun
sensor if ACC-equipped
- connector has keeper
clips on both sides, but should just slide off
- Lift dash cover
back and up
-
Re-installation - Remember
to:
- Reconnect the sun
sensor, if so equipped
- Reposition the
jacketed steel cable in the three clips
- Fish out the alarm
LED connector at the left side, if so equipped
- Make sure the center
guide slips under the clip at the front center
