Turbo bypass valve
Symptom: Engine stalls on deceleration/when coming to stops
See troubleshooting section for
diagnostic
Replacement
cost estimated at $50 to $125
Headliner & door cloth
Foam backing deteriorates; fabric comes loose and cannot be
re-glued.
Worse in the heat and humidity of the
south.
Common on
many modern cars - almost certainly will happen within 10 years
Clean
headliner and door trim panels minimally to prolong life.
Replacement available for < $150 - see http://www.saabstuff.com/
Exhaust system
Worse in the cold and salt of the north
Flex pipe is particularly failure prone
Bad motor mounts will accelerate flex
pipe failure
Wheel bearings and hubs are reportedly not a
strong point
I have not found this to be a trouble spot - possibly on very
early models
(Failure may be caused by
aftermarket wheels with improper offset)
To prevent engine overheating (and head gasket
failure)-
Replace the cooling fan thermoswitch with the lower
temperature unit
See the Links and Info page
Replace the thermostat every couple of years
Water pump -
I think water pump failures are related to poor or no
maintenance
Check for coolant leaks below water
pump
Replacement
cost estimated at $125 to $225
Steering pump/rack -
Ditto - if fluid is changed regularly, the pump and rack
are not failure prone
Listen for excessive growling sounds
when turning wheels at a standstill
Replacement
cost estimated at $150 to $350
